Anchor Hospital offers comprehensive treatment to teens, adults and seniors experiencing a behavioral or chemical dependency crisis. Anchor Hospitals’s acute inpatient services program operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week. 

Teen Psychiatric Unit

The adolescent unit at Anchor Hospital is designed to meet the needs of teenagers dealing with a variety of mental health challenges. Daily treatment is patient-centered and tailored to the needs of the individual, with an emphasis on meeting the patient’s needs while incorporating support from parents, guardians, the multi-disciplinary staff at Anchor Hospital as well as other support members. The program focuses on safety and uses a trauma-informed approach to treatment.

Additional components include:

  • S.E.L.F. Program (Safety, Emotions, Loss and Future)

  • Individual and group therapy

  • Family sessions 

  • Tough Guise, a research-based and outcome-driven program addressing violence, media, bullying and the impact on a teenager’s development

  • Expressive therapies, including art and recreational therapy

Adult Psychiatric Unit

We provide evaluation and treatment to stabilize adults, ages 18 and older, who are in crisis and struggling with a wide range of psychiatric disorders including, but not limited to: major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders and other stress-related disorders. Our intensive, therapeutic environment provides 24-hour nursing care and uses research-based programming and trauma-informed approach. 

Program provides include:

  • Individual and group therapy

  • Family sessions 

  • Expressive therapies, including art and recreational therapy

Older Adults 

We offer specialized care for older adults with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders and/or who are medically ill and require a higher level of supportive care. Our physicians and clinical staff have experience dealing with nursing home and assisted-living facility residents.

We offer:

  • Short-term acute care

  • Intensive, therapeutic environment with secure, access-only units

  • 24-hour nursing care

  • Expressive therapies, including art and recreational / activity therapy

  • Family sessions

  • Assistance with activities for daily living skills

  • Cognitive Impairment assessments and treatments

For Military Service Members and Veterans 

Anchor Hospital accepts TRICARE® and cares for service members and veterans, offering specialized behavioral health and substance use treatment services. Services include inpatient and outpatient programming that focus on treating post-traumatic stress and other issues. Our experienced staff is sensitive to the needs of veterans and some have a military background.

Individualized treatment can include:

  • Evaluation and treatment for individuals in psychiatric crisis

  • Substance use treatment services

    • 12-Step Program, based on principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

    • Medically supervised detoxification

    • Rehabilitation services

  • Dual Diagnosis Program – Treats co-occurring psychiatric and substance use issues simultaneously

Addiction Treatment / Substance Use Treatment Services

Anchor Hospital’s Chemical Dependency Program provides treatment to adults, ages 18 or older with a primary diagnosis of addictive disease.  Treatment is based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous and can include medically-supervised detoxification in addition to rehabilitation services.

Our program includes:

  • 12-Step Recovery Lectures

  • Relapse Prevention

  • Step Work Preparation

  • Psychotherapy, Coping Skills, Spirituality, and Dual Diagnosis Groups

  • Physician Lectures on Addiction

  • Expressive Therapy

  • 24-hour Nursing and Physician Care

  • Daily NA/AA Meetings

  • Family Sessions

  • Mirror Image Program

The following therapeutic themes are addressed concurrently with addiction issues:

  • Shame

  • Trauma/Abuse History

Dual Diagnosis Services

Co-occurring psychiatric and chemical dependency issues will be treated simultaneously while in the inpatient program.  Based on an integrated assessment treatment is tailored to suit the individual patient.  Patients at Anchor will have the opportunity to participate in programming that addresses both psychiatric and chemical dependency symptoms.

Treatment is administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals.  Active family involvement in treatment is a critical component for the treatment plan.  Team members may include:

  • Nurses

  • Social Workers

  • Expressive Therapists

  • Program Specialists

  • Substance Abuse Counselors

  • Psychologists

The treatment plan focuses on attainable short and long term goals established with the input of the patient’s family and referring professional, if appropriate. Active family involvement in treatment is a critical component as the patient’s recovery is often correlated to healthy family interaction.
